OOC & RULES
Hello there, stranger! My name is Hannah (she/her) and I’m 25+This is honestly more of an F.A.Q. / informational reference sheet of the way I do things than a hard & fast “rules” page. The stuff in here is for your convenience! Not to boss you around. Feel free to skim tbh! & If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask!Broadly speaking, I’m a slow writer & generally scattered person, but try to approach rp with a relaxed manner. “Breaking” any of my “rules” typically only prompts me to chat with you about my boundaries so we can be on the same page. The really important part is the ability and safety to communicate. If you want to know something from me, please ask & be patient: I will tell you when I have the energy and time.Info on tagging and triggers is at the bottom of this page!
ACTIVITY / (UN)FOLLOWING
My activity is known to fluctuate a bit, I try to warn ahead of time if I’m going to disappear for a long time.
Please feel welcome to check in on threads, asks, and messages I haven’t gotten to. I promise it’s not reflective of my investment I just write very slowly and lose track of things sometimes!
I am not mutuals-exclusive, but I am mutual-focused and a bit selective
I hard block people who make me uncomfortable with their conduct as well as for content I just don’t want to see; it’s not a condemnation of anyone, just a useful tool I am liberal with.
If you got softblocked it was probably me cleaning inactives or just tumblr nonsense but either way, you’re very welcome to refollow!
REPLIES
You can always ask me to rework a starter or reply I've written for you! at any time! whether its our first thread or 500th! If something just doesn't work for you, please feel welcome to say so.
Do not worry about matching length! I'm kind of long-winded sometimes and I'd rather get something workable than 'same length'. I'll let you know if I can't see a way forward with what I get back
Threads do not expire. If it takes you six minutes or six months I am game and I want the reply! Also it might take me six minutes or six months to send it back, though. We're chillin'
MEMES
Memes/prompts are always open to anyone unless tagged otherwise; I may not reply to every single meme I get, but I do my best.
Meme/prompt responses are always welcome to be turned into threads!
I might, at random, draw instead of write a response to a meme. Just if I feel like it, or get an idea. The chances are low but never zero, please do not send if not ok with this
Reblog karma isn’t an issue here! Reblog me on the dash to your heart’s content including memes & inspo & aethestics (though I would prefer not to have entire tags worth of things reblogged all at one go.) I will respect 'reblog from source' requests seen in rules or on the dash, etc.
SHIPPING
I am affiliated with dolhood's Carina Barbossa. We've spent a lot of time developing their dynamic & story, and have tied our portrayals together. I will not be shipping with other Carina writers. (Sorry!)
Outside of affiliation, I am a multi-verse, multi-ship blog! All relationships are effectively separate unless otherwise plotted: I will plot polyamorous ships, in the event all parties are comfortable with it!
I AM PRO-NSFW CONTENT; All will be tagged (#nsfw cw) and text posts go under "keep reading" breaks. I will not rp sexual situations with underage writers or characters.
DISCLAIMERS / PSA
I am in no way affiliated with any of the people or properties who appear on this blog, and I do not gain revenue from it. All of the writing, artwork, and editing I do is entirely for entertainment's sake. The quote on the nav page is from Small Boat Sailing by Jack London.
All of the art on this carrd was done by me. Please do not take it. I use Autodesk Sketchbook and a Bamboo Capture (CTH470) for all of my art!
I do not engage in or with callout posts. Do not send them to me unprompted. Do not ask me to reblog them. If you have concerns about my safety, DM me off anon to discuss it with me, please.
Dead Men Tell No Tales is a very silly, very flawed movie that also happens to be very dear to me. If you are blog that posts regular negativity about DMTNT and/or you can't stomach positive talk about it, we're probably better off agreeing to disagree in our own spaces. I'm likely to block you if it feels this way
BLOG ROLL
ru5t; post-apocalypse rebel hacker OC (moderate/high activity)
voleuxe; fandomless action/crime-thriller OC (activity levels vary)
talesgolden; multi-muse, mix of OCs and canons (low activity)

TAGGING / TRIGGERS
Please talk with me ahead of time if you want to do plots involving death -especially focused on grief/mourning- and self-harm as major plot points, and I ask that you please tag these kinds of posts. These are more handle-with-care topics than hard nos, so I'm usually pretty chill about reminders and stuff. Basically as long as I am given a heads up and choice to engage or refuse, we’re good! I'm blocking most versions of "death tw" "grief tw" and "self harm tw" for perfect clarity on what tags to use (also "Hannah don't look" works for any of these lmao)
I tag in "#trigger tw" and "#content cw" formats and will tag common triggers and things I see in rules/ooc posts to the best of my memory. If I miss something, please feel welcome to remind me! or to unfollow, whichever suits you.
Also regarding triggers: Henry exists in a historical-adjacent setting, things like sexism, racism, and homophobia may come up. I acknowledge but don’t heavily emphasize these themes; they exist in his reality but they’re not central to him as a character. Henry also comes from an action genre, fighting and some gore in the form of cuts, bruises, & injuries will come up, and there are times when it flirts with the horror genre, with some body horror and creepy imagery. Again, I tag things, but I’m just noting these here for content awareness!

STATS / TRAITS
BACKGROUND
FULL NAME: Henry James Turner
DATE OF BIRTH: 12 June 1743 (approximately, but the timeline is forgiving, don’t worry about it too much)
AGE: ~24 is the default; shifts around in different verses
GENDER: Cisgender Male
SEXUALITY: Fluid
PLACE OF BIRTH: Shipwreck Island; actually a series of volcanic islands one day’s sail off the northeast coast of South America that share the name. Shipwreck Cove is the one you're thinking of, and generally regarded as the 'main' island; he was born on a separate islandSPOKEN LANGUAGES: English, Mandarin, a nameless pidgin language unique to Shipwreck Cove, some Malay, and Latin (as much as one can speak Latin, that is); some rough Spanish, French, Italian, etc., by way of the Latin, so don’t lean too hard on it, it’s bound to buckle
WRITTEN/READ LANGUAGES: English, Latin, Greek, Hebrew; again the Latin gives him access to educated guessing at romance languages but it’s not proper fluency and you should take it with a grain of saltCURRENT LIVING CONDITIONS: He still thinks of the Lighthouse as home, but is no stranger to sailing with various crews, making coin as a navigator or topman; He believes that, though through his actions a number of sea-bound curses were broken, there is nothing to stop new ones being formed and nothing that says that was (in every case) a good thing — he keeps a keen ear out for rumors and other such stirrings
FAMILY INFORMATION
MOTHER: Elizabeth Swann
FATHER: William Turner (Jr.)
SIBLINGS: None canon. Verse dependent sometimes a younger sister, Maggie
CHILDREN: Verse dependent (arc v & forward) two daughters, Shabira and Penelope
OTHER: "Uncle" Jack Sparrow, whatever that makes Teague (his grandfather)Beyond his family, Henry is very attached to the populations of Shipwreck Island. In many regards, they are "his people", the only version of society he claims (or that claims him), and piracy stands as his only real sense of a greater identity. He is not English, he is not from South America, he is a pirate, and the pirates of Shipwreck Cove are an important part of him.

PHYSICAL TRAITS
HAIR: Golden Brown; lightens to blonde with enough time in the sun (and he is always in the sun.) Wavy, a little bit coarse, doesn’t tangle easily. He often keeps it tied back, though at least one piece in the front always escapes.
EYES: Brown; that shade that looks dark a lot of the time but turns out to be amber in the light.
HEIGHT: 6’ 0"; it suits him
BUILD: Athletic, strong and filled out. Can seem deceptively less at a glance.
SCARS: Go Here for a visual guide, but just know they're there, most notably the one on his face post-canon.
TATTOOS: Go Here; "I am the Master of my fate; I am the Captain of my soul" aligned below his right collarbone, a compass with Northern indicator over his heart, a swan sitting on the ocean on the top of his left forearm, a setting/rising sun above his right elbow, a mermaid gesturing toward a trident on his left shoulder/arm.
OTHER IDENTIFYING FEATURES: His ears are pierced, four in his left ear and three in his right; able-bodied sailor (skilled at climbing, knowledgeable about ships & running them, has nice arms); well-read, though you might not think it by looking at him; If you’ve met his parents he rather unmistakably resembles them both; a brawler from a family of fencers; unrelenting golden retriever energy that is somehow also slightly feral; he “reeks of Sparrow”
PERSONAL TRAITS
PERSONALITY TYPE: ENFP(A) — The Campaigner
ENNEAGRAM: Type 7 — The Enthusiast
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Good — kind heart+free spiritPOSITIVES: Optimistic, Attentive, Resourceful, Courageous, Self-Assured, Open-minded, Genuine (heart on his sleeve)
NEGATIVES: Headstrong, Impulsive, Indelicate, Mouthy, Somewhat contrarian, A bit of a know-it-all sometimes, Easily goaded into fights, Easy to read (heart on his sleeve)LIKES: Stories and Legends and Myths, Sleeping under the stars, being on/near the water, to be tall, being challenged, tongue-in-cheek banter
DISLIKES: Jellyfish, Being ignored, Arrogance that will not listen to reason, cruelty in others, being (metaphorically) tied down too tightly, being (literally) tied up at all - or anything that robs him of his agency for that matterFEARS: Possession/other lack of autonomy; Failing/disappointing his loved ones; loss of loved ones; Cleithrophobia which is a(n irrational) fear of being trapped, it is made worse by small spaces but isn’t technically claustrophobia, though can appear very similar when it manifests. He has always been resistant to being boxed in, but post-possession he is hyper-vigilant for scenarios that trap or corner him.
MOTIVATIONS: Protecting and honoring his loved ones, Defending his community and way of life, Seeking adventure, Seeking… companionship? (He’s not sure, bless his heart)HOBBIES / INTERESTS: collecting luck charms and artifacts tied to old curses, cartography- specifically of the coasts and currents, reading (& translating) old stories, languages in general (he’s shaping into quite the polyglot), rock climbing, exploring / adventuring
NERVOUS TICKS: Fiddling with whichever necklace he might be wearing (his fathers or his own, depending on timeline placement) and/or the nazar bracelet he wears; drumming his fingers against his leg- he gets very antsy in general, jittery, unable to sit still in a very noticeable way, and he always ends up with this little line between his eyebrows
SOURCE MATERIAL / DIVERGENCES
Son of the Pirate King. Blood of a Turner, feathers of a Sparrow.
The boy who keeps lemons in his pockets.
The characterization presented here is an adaptation of Henry Turner from the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. I have things I love about Dead Men Tell No Tales.. and also things I dislike. And I have lots and lots of headcanons. I draw inspo for my worldbuilding from all five films, The Prices of Freedom by A.C. Crispin, The Brightest Star in the North by Meredith Rusu, the film's novelization by Elizabeth Rudnik, two earlier versions of the scripts, and then random dashes of other media and folklore all the way into Greek Myth. The result? Henry is largely canon-compliant in terms of personality, but his background is like… canon to the left. The events of the movie took place, more or less, but the history, relationships, and dynamics of DMTNT’s apparent canon are mild to moderately shaken up. I have not scratch-written a bio for him, somehow, in 4 years of what I believe to be hyperfocus, but I keep meaning to. I generally assume you guys are just rolling with me unless you ask for info. As things are right now, these dot points are the major points important to interacting. If you would like to know more about the way I’ve interpreted and customized my approach to canon, you can read about it in this absurdly long document I drafted (which has, by and by, has led to me writing a fix-it fic for the whole damn movie btw) but I cannot stress to you how much I am entirely overinvested and do not expect you to have read it before or even while interacting with me/this blog. Ultimately it's all very patchwork, like an amateur but beloved quilt. You are always welcome to ask me questions you may have about Henry's history/canon, the way I approach it, my feelings on the franchise as a whole, etc.! I love to answer questions ♥
Elizabeth kept her titles of Pirate Lord and Pirate King, and has been serving as the figurehead of the court for all Henry’s life; this means Henry was born on Shipwreck Island and raised firmly immersed in pirating culture. A 'pirate prince' of sorts, even, though that isn't always the accolade it sounds like.
Jack has always been a part of Henry’s life, involved as a parental-adjacent figure in his own fashion (i.e. never seeking to replace William, only to look after Liz and Henry); Henry strongly looks up to, trusts, loves Jack, and considers him family. Even when doing so causes problems.
I don’t generally hold to the idea that Will failed or rejected his duties onboard the Dutchman, leading to an altered physical state or lack of control over his crew, etc. Will’s “curse” saved his life, but is(/was) a “curse” to Henry because of the distance and separation inherent to it. That’s enough of a curse, for a young boy, knowing your father loves you and, still, cannot stay.
Pirating culture was under direct threat when Henry was born; a lot of his early childhood was characterized by the Brethren Court fighting a war against the East India Trading Company — the one delayed by Beckett’s death and the sinking of the Endeavor. This reached its actual conclusion some time in Henry’s preteen years (probably. Maybe a little later.)
Henry has always had a sense for the supernatural, it’s one part informed awareness, three parts genuine sixth-sense for the mystical currents of his world- especially those circling death. He is the son of psychopomp, after all. It became stronger after he drowned, then shifted again after he was possessed by a vengeful ghost.
The possession was really horrible and traumatic, and while the trident undid the binding and set him back to himself, there were lasting effects. Anything set post-movie is going to see ramifications in this regard.
Henry did not break “every curse at sea” but he did unbind more than he meant to when he broke the Trident of Poseidon. Some of this is for the better. Others, distinctly for the worse. (This is a really good fact to plot around.)
